| Italy: unemployment rate hits 7.1 per cent |
|
| [ Italica ] - Roughly 1 million and 775 thousand people are looking for a job. The figures, drawn up by Italy's National Institute of Statistics Istat, show that unemployment rate jumped to 7.1 per cent in Q4 of 2008. By considering the different geographical areas, in the Mezzogiorno the unemployment rate is at 12.3 per cent, in Northern Italy is 4.3 per cent and in Central Italy is 6.3 per cent. On the other hand, employment rate rose by 1.2 per cent among females, and decreased by 0.6 per cent among males. The employment rate rose in Central Italy(+1.5%) and in the North (+0.7%), while only in Southern Italy there is a reduction (-1.9%).
